The FBI is offering a cash reward for information leading to the discovery of the remains of Ana Maria Henao Knezevic, a woman who lived in Spain and disappeared in 2024, and for whose murder her husband, South Florida businessman David Knezevic, was suspected before he was found dead in prison.
Ana Maria Henao Knezevic was born in Colombia and was a naturalized American citizen living in Fort Lauderdale. Her disappearance was reported on February 4, 2024, while she was staying in Madrid, where the FBI believes she was killed two days earlier.
The forty-year-old was living in Spain after going through a difficult period due to a divorce from her husband David Knezevic, an American businessman from Serbia. It is believed that this divorce was the motive for Knezevic to kill his wife, as they could not agree on the distribution of multi-million dollar assets.
Knezevic was arrested and a significant amount of evidence was collected pointing to his guilt, but he did not live to see the trial as he committed suicide in a Miami prison. He never wanted to reveal information about the location of Ana’s remains.
Because of this, FBI investigators are offering a reward of $25,000 for information leading to the discovery of her remains. It is believed that Knezevic disposed of Ana’s body on the route he traveled from Madrid to Belgrade, which passes through France, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, and Serbia.

The FBI has also published photos of recognizable details belonging to Ana—a picture of her necklace and a diary, which are believed to potentially be with her, as they were not found in the apartment where she stayed in Spain.

Last seen entering the building
According to investigation data, Ana was last seen on surveillance camera footage entering her building in Madrid around 1:42 PM on February 2, 2024. Later that day, she had a video call around 7:00 PM, and she sent her last message to friends around 10:01 PM.
The investigation determined that at approximately 9:27 PM the same evening, a man believed to be her husband was filmed entering the building wearing a motorcycle helmet and a reflective vest.
He then spray-painted the only surveillance camera in the building’s lobby and subsequently left the facility carrying an object that investigators believe is a suitcase containing the body of Ana Maria Henao Knezevic.
From that moment, Ana has not been seen again, and the FBI previously stated that all collected data and information regarding this case indicate that she is no longer alive.
Car rented in Belgrade
The FBI also stated that on January 29, 2024, David Knezevic rented a dark blue “Peugeot 308” in Belgrade. He tinted the rear windows and drove the vehicle from Belgrade to Madrid, passing through Croatia, Slovenia, France, Italy, and Spain.
During the trip, he stole and changed his license plates in an attempt to stay under the radar. He returned to Serbia using the same route, and it is believed that he disposed of the remains during the return journey.
Indictments had been filed against Knezevic for kidnapping resulting in death, domestic violence resulting in death committed outside U.S. territory, and the murder of a U.S. citizen committed outside the U.S.
Suicide in prison
In April 2025, Department of Justice officials announced that Knezevic was found unconscious in a detention center in Miami. His lawyer then announced that Knezevic had committed suicide.
In a statement released by Ana’s family at the time, it was noted:
“The suicide of Ana’s killer closes a painful chapter in our lives, which was filled with the fear that he might never be held accountable. Now we may never know where he hid Ana’s body. This is a cruel final insult, as we may never find her remains or know the full truth of the betrayal she suffered. Nevertheless, we remain committed to the search for truth and justice for Ana, with the help of our lawyer, and to preserving a dignified memory of her. We are grateful to the competent authorities for continuing the investigation and the search for her body,” Ana’s family stated at the time.
The FBI has called on anyone with any information regarding Ana’s body to contact the nearest FBI office, U.S. embassy or consulate, or submit a report via the official FBI website.
