Serbia once again has a representative in the strongest women’s basketball league in the world.
Angela Dugalic, power forward of our national team, was selected as the 9th pick in the WNBA draft by the Washington Mystics.
This selection crowned an incredible ten days in the career of the young basketball player, who arrives in the USA with championship brilliance and high expectations.
Before putting on the Mystics jersey, Angela made college basketball history with her UCLA Bruins:

She became an NCAA champion after a convincing victory in the final over South Carolina (79:51). The Bruins experienced only one loss throughout the entire year.
Although she was often a starter, Angela was named the best sixth player of the season due to her contribution from the bench and her versatility.
Although she was mostly in the starting five, Angela, who plays at the power forward position, averaged exactly 9 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists during the season, with 50.2 percent shooting from the field.
A mitigating factor for our basketball player will be that she is not going to the US capital alone. UCLA set a record with as many as five players selected in the first round, and Angela will play again for the Mystics with her former teammate, Lauren Betts.

“That will be great. I am very excited. It will be a smooth transition, playing with her again,” Dugalic told the LA Times.
Serbia has been waiting for a new representative in the elite competition for a long time. After Yvonne Anderson and Tina Krajisnik played in the league in 2022, a break occurred that Angela will now end. As a reminder, Ivana Raca was selected in 2021, but never recorded an official debut.
Angela, although born in Illinois, proved her loyalty to the Serbian colors long ago, and the crown of that cooperation was the gold medal at the European Championship in 2021.
The Mystics won their only ring in 2019 with a victory over Connecticut in the finals (3-2), but since then they have not had significant success, and in three of the last six seasons, they have not even reached the playoffs.
