BODIES OF BOSNIAN MOUNTAINEERS LOCATED ON ELBRUS: Recovery Delayed Due to Severe Weather, Investigation Into the Accident Launched! (VIDEO)

The bodies of three deceased mountaineers from Bosnia and Herzegovina have been located on Mount Elbrus, but they have not yet been evacuated, the regional Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation told RIA Novosti.

Earlier, the regional branch of Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations announced that the bodies of two of the deceased mountaineers had been evacuated from Elbrus. The search for the remaining three had been suspended due to bad weather and was expected to resume on Monday morning.

Five Bosnian climbers are believed to have died while attempting to ascend Europe's tallest peak Mount Elbrus in Russia’s North Caucasus, per various media outlets.

However, the regional branch of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation later announced that rescuers had also found the bodies of the remaining three deceased mountaineers, RIA Novosti reported, as cited by N1 Sarajevo.

The regional Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation said today that a group of seven people had been climbing Mount Elbrus.

One of the mountaineers descended from the mountain and reported that two members of the group had fallen ill at an altitude of 5,100 meters. Rescuers found their bodies, but severe weather complicated the evacuation. Later, another member of the group was found alive, while the search for the remaining three continued.

A criminal investigation has been launched on suspicion of causing death by negligence. Law enforcement authorities in Kabardino-Balkaria told RIA Novosti that, according to preliminary information, the mountaineers who died on Elbrus were citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
