What is the state? Who does it belong to? The answer will be given together on March 1, announced students in blockade from Niš, unveiling a “major student gathering” in the city on that date.
The rally will take place on the anniversary of the largest protest in Niš in recent years and will last for 18 hours, organized by the students in blockade.
As part of the event, thematic forums will be held in Prokuplje, Leskovac, Pirot, Vranje, and Aleksinac, serving as “a space for open dialogue on key problems faced by citizens in southern and southeastern Serbia on a daily basis.”
“The region has been systematically neglected for decades, leading to economic devastation, institutional collapse, and mass emigration of young people,” the students stated.
Topics at the forums will include ecology, corruption, the economy, workers’ rights, healthcare, media freedom, and local self-government.
“Southern Serbia must oppose the trend of emigration, poverty, and silence. These forums are a step toward identifying problems, connecting people, and collectively starting the fight for a dignified life in our own cities. Without a strong south, there can be no balanced developement of the entire country,” they added.
