The greatest tennis player of all time is not finished yet; the end will come when he decides! Novak Đoković reached his 11th Australian Open final after an epic victory over Jannik Sinner, even though before the start of the match he had been labeled with the humiliating status of a complete underdog – 3:6, 6:3, 4:6, 6:4, 6:4.
The Italian grabbed a break advantage right at the start of the match, which he managed to preserve with minor problems and a saved break point at 3:1. A very comfortable first set, ahead of the lion-hearted battle that followed.
Novak used his fourth break chance and then annulled four opportunities for his opponent (three in a row) to get back into the match, winning his first set against Sinner since the 2024 Australian Open. Outstanding serving and a drastically higher level of play hinted at a “vintage” Đoković to come.

And so it was, and the only chance to take serve until the very finish belonged to Đoković. Still, the player from the Boot escaped with a phenomenal backhand down the line, managing to “pierce” Nole – the ball landed exactly on the line. Then the 38-year-old was betrayed by his strength; nausea and vomiting did their part. The young man from South Tyrol earned three consecutive break and set points, which he of course capitalized on. It did not look encouraging, but…
The king of Rod Laver Arena opened the next period of play with a break, which gave hope to the crowd present in the magnificent venue that they would watch a real thriller. And that is how it was, because the 10-time champion, in an even battle, managed to hold his serve and reach another equalizer. Once again Jannik had several good situations to return to level terms, but the 38-year-old did not allow it. It was tense even when serving for the fifth set, but the winner of 24 Grand Slams kept his composure and used his third opportunity to the delight of the spectators.
The first half of the deciding set was pure torment. Đoković fended off as many as five break points with superhuman efforts, while the current ruler of the first Slam of the season did not even break a sweat in his service games. All the way until 3:3, when Novak used the first opening for the advantage. Immediately in the next game Sinner had three more consecutive break points, but once again Nole pulled himself out of the abyss.
UNBELIEVABLE ‼️

In the end, a missed sitter for a new final, mind games, and finally a knockout for a new clash with Carlos Alcaraz, which will decide the new king of Melbourne. Or the old one, we hope.
