This year, in addition to Orthodox believers, all other Christians are celebrating Easter on the same day. The greatest Christian holiday, symbolizing the victory of life over death, is being celebrated today by Catholics, Protestants, Anglicans, and other Western Christian churches.

Christians around the world are celebrating the greatest Christian holiday – the resurrection of Jesus Christ. In addition to Orthodox believers, all the faithful who belong to Western rite churches are marking the holiday on the same day this year.

The resurrection of the Son of God is the foundation of the Christian faith, the renewal of life, a symbol of the indestructibility of the spirit upon which faith in God rests.

The holiday begins with attending a festive service, which reminds that Jesus Christ, the Messiah, who was incarnated by the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became man, came into this earthly life to save all humankind from sin through His sacrifice on the cross. He then rose from the dead.

Cardinal Ladislav Nemet, Archbishop and Metropolitan of Belgrade, stated in his Easter message that everyone must reexamine their actions, thoughts, and way of speaking, and ask themselves whether their words and presence in public, in families, and at workplaces spread peace and love, or perhaps discord, lies, and deceit.

For Easter, it is customary everywhere to dye eggs, primarily in red, which represents a symbol of new life.

According to tradition, the first eggs were given to Emperor Tiberius by Mary Magdalene, who came to Rome with a message about the resurrection.

The egg is a symbol of the renewal of nature and life, and just as the Yule log burning on the hearth gives a special charm to Christmas night, the red Easter egg likewise brings joy to those who give and receive it.

Families gather around a rich table, join in fun egg hunts, and in some places compete to find the strongest egg.

This great holiday has also brought a large number of customs that vary from country to country.
