Students in blockade from the University of Niš and the State University of Novi Pazar have announced their position that Serbia needs an expert government. They have joined their colleagues from Novi Sad and Kragujevac who in previous days also stated conclusions that the formation of a Government of Serbia, composed of experts with clearly defined deadlines and tasks, would enable the fulfillment of student demands, as well as the restoration of citizens’ trust in institutions.
In a statement advocating for an expert government, students from Niš said that silence is not an option.
“From the city that has been a symbol of resistance, freedom, and dignity for centuries, we send a clear message: society must rely on knowledge, justice, and responsibility, not on political loyalty. We will not watch as the future collapses in silence. We will not accept that the qualification for leading the state is only political affiliation. That is why we advocate for the formation of an expert government – composed of experts with knowledge, integrity, and experience, and not of obedient political cadres,” stated the students from Niš.

Explaining why they support the idea of an expert government, the students state that institutions have ceased to function in the interest of citizens, that young people and citizens are excluded from the political decision-making process, and that responsibility is constantly shifted, while justice never arrives.
In a statement published on the Instagram account “Studenti u blokadi” (Students in Blockade) of the University of Niš, they also stated that an expert government is expected to restore functionality and trust in institutions, show a willingness to hear and implement the legitimate demands of students and citizens, and lay the foundations for the restoration of the legal order and democratic principles.
The decision to support an expert government was also made by the plenum of students of the State University of Novi Pazar.
“This decision was made after an open debate and public discussion among students, in response to the current socio-political situation and deeply rooted distrust in the current political structures. We believe that Serbia needs an expert government – a government composed of experts from various fields, not party cadres, whose sole goal is to responsibly and efficiently manage the state in the interest of citizens,” announced the students from Novi Pazar.
They added that Serbia “deserves to be governed by the best among us – people with knowledge, integrity, and vision.”
Students of the University of Belgrade have not yet officially commented on the demand for an expert government, except for the Faculty of Philosophy there, which previously took a stance against that concept.
