In Draginac, the native village of the killed policeman Nikola Krsmanović, a mural with his image has been unveiled. The mural was painted in memory by his friends and colleagues, after Krsmanović tragically died in July last year in an attack carried out by an Albanian terrorist.

The whole of Serbia remembers Nikola Krsmanović as a uniformed police officer who tragically died on duty. For his family and friends, he was more than that – a son, brother, friend, and colleague, but also a football player in the village club.

“Nikola was a man who connected all of us, always at the center of society. We gathered around him, whether as colleagues or as friends. He was also my childhood friend and teammate in the football club ‘October 14th’,” states Nikola Aleksić, Nikola’s childhood friend.

The residents of Draginac say they have taken on the obligation to ensure that the name of Nikola Krsmanović is not forgotten. In addition to the mural painted by his friends, two initiatives have been launched – to rename Varoška Street in his name and to build a memorial fountain in the center of the village.

“What remains is to change the name of Varoška Street, to rename it Nikola Krsmanović Street, and to build a memorial fountain in the center of Draginac. The mural behind us is the second one, one is in the center of Draginac, and I hope everyone will remember Nikola,” says Vladan Krsmanović, Nikola’s relative.

Nikola Krsmanović was posthumously awarded the “Miloš Obilić” gold medal for bravery on National Day, for personal heroism and outstanding courage shown in the performance of his official duty.
