The Student Council of the University of Rojava from Syria has offered support to Serbian students and emphasized their belief in their success.
They posted a video with a statement on their Instagram profile, which we are transmitting in its entirety.
“As students of the University of Rojava, we stand in solidarity with the students of Serbian universities who have been demonstrating and protesting for almost five months for the establishment of a new system based on democracy and equality, a system in which everyone has a place and a voice in decision-making. We firmly believe that your struggle will succeed and that you will achieve your goals, just as we did when we founded free and democratic universities in northern and eastern Syria (Rojava).
Student Council of the University of Rojava. April 21, 2025.
Long live the student movement. Long live free democratic universities.”
The University of Rojava was founded in Qamishli in 2016, amidst the war, conflict, and emergency situation in Syria, particularly in Rojava/northern and eastern Syria.
The university offered an opportunity to students who had to suspend their educational programs due to the conflict in Syria and geographical disconnection.
Since then, the university’s faculties and departments have admitted more than 1,500 students.
