Thirteen-year-old Marek Ponjičan from Bački Petrovac has once again proven that kindness knows no age. In a heartfelt pre-Easter fundraising effort, Marek baked and sold homemade pastries, raising a remarkable 96,000 dinars, which he donated to the husband of Teodora Martinko—a neighbor who was seriously injured when a station canopy collapsed in Novi Sad.

The money was raised through Marek’s fourth charity event, where he not only made and sold the baked goods himself but also encouraged local citizens to contribute through donations. His initiative quickly gained traction, drawing support not only from his hometown but also from people in surrounding cities.

Marek is no stranger to humanitarian work. Over the years, he has organized numerous similar initiatives, including preparing more than 1,000 gift packages for children at a pediatric hospital. His spring bake sales have also helped fund treatment for sick children across Serbia.

All of Marek’s pastries sold out the same day during the event, which lasted from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The impressive turnout and generosity of the community reflected the strong support for the cause and for the young humanitarian behind it.

As Kisač is the closest village to Bački Petrovac, Marek felt a personal connection to Teodora, the sole survivor of the tragic station accident, and dedicated this event to help her recovery.

“He asked me if I thought he should organize another fundraiser. Of course, I supported him,” said Milota Palenkaš, a close family friend and supporter. “Every bit helps. I post everything on Facebook so more people can see and support it. Some people have already donated through the charity box we set up—whether or not they buy pastries. Others donated cookies, honey cakes, even a whole cake, and some provided baking supplies, which means a lot so we can make even more.”

What started as a small act of goodwill has grown into a beacon of hope and compassion. Thanks to Marek’s big heart and determined spirit, a neighbor in need now has a little more support—and an entire community has been reminded of the power of kindness.
