Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, stated that attempts by US President Donald Trump to issue ultimatums to Russia pose a threat that could lead not to an escalation of the conflict with Ukraine, but to a direct conflict with the United States.
“Trump is playing with ultimatums with Russia: 50 days or 10. He should remember two things: Russia is not Israel, nor even Iran. Every new ultimatum is a threat and a step towards war. Not between Russia and Ukraine, but with his own country. Don’t go the way of Sleepy Joe!” Medvedev wrote on platform X, commenting on the American leader’s announcement about shortening the 50-day deadline he had previously set for achieving a ceasefire between Moscow and Kyiv.
Trump had earlier stated that he was shortening the 50-day deadline he set for a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine to 10-12 days, citing a lack of progress in negotiations between the parties as the reason. He also said that he would soon officially announce the decision.
The American president threatened to impose secondary sanctions and tariffs on countries that import oil and gas from Russia if a peace agreement is not reached.
Trump said that such measures could include 100 percent tariffs and that he is still considering that scenario.
