Students participating in the blockade at the University of Novi Sad have been collecting aid since this morning in front of the Rectorate building for firefighters, soldiers, and volunteers battling the wildfire in the Deliblato Sands.
Čeda Aleksić, a student at the Faculty of Sciences in Novi Sad, said that citizens are donating 0.3- and 0.5-liter bottles of water because they are easier for people working on the front lines of the fire to carry and use.
In addition to water, organizers are asking for non-perishable food, individually packaged energy biscuits, and sweets such as Plazma biscuits and Bonžita bars, which can be quickly consumed in the field.
Aleksić also appealed for donations of flashlights, gauze, and saline solution. He noted that firefighters and the military are well supplied, but that civilian volunteers assisting in extinguishing the blaze often lack essential equipment.

The students will deliver all collected donations to the volunteer fire departments in Kovin and Deliblato, which will then distribute the supplies wherever they are needed most.
The collection drive will continue today and in the coming days for as long as assistance is required.
The Novi Sad humanitarian organization “Budi Heroj” is also collecting bottled water and non-perishable food at its premises at 11 Despot Stefan Boulevard. That campaign will run until 8 p.m.
The wildfire in the Deliblato Sands has been burning for several days. A large number of firefighters, members of the Serbian Armed Forces, and volunteers remain on the ground trying to contain the blaze, while local residents have been evacuated as a precaution.
