The owner of a well-known greengrocery store in Belgrade’s Karaburma neighborhood, Radivoje G. (73), was allegedly the primary target of a three-member gang accused of committing one of this year’s most brutal murders on August 2. Investigators have now traced the path of the stolen money—from the moment the €11,000 and cash in Serbian dinars were divided, to the purchase of a car, and finally to the discovery of the remaining money hidden in an ordinary green plastic bag in Subotica.
According to investigators, Milica Đ. (40) and Marko S. (32) killed the 73-year-old by forcing a piece of cloth deep into his mouth and tying it in place with shoelaces. After the murder, they searched the apartment and allegedly stole around €11,000, partly in euros and partly in Serbian dinars, along with other valuables. They then divided the money and began planning their escape.
Instead of lying low after the crime, investigators say two members of the group made a costly mistake. Milica Đ. and the youngest suspect, Martina K. (30), allegedly decided to immediately spend part of the stolen money by purchasing a Volkswagen.
That purchase ultimately led investigators to them. Officers from Serbia’s Criminal Police Directorate (UKP) located and arrested the two women while they were driving the newly purchased vehicle. A search of the car uncovered a portion of the stolen cash that had not yet been spent.

The third suspect, Marko S. from Subotica, allegedly took a different approach. He packed his share of the stolen money into an ordinary green plastic bag and hid it at the property where he was staying.
When police tracked him down in Subotica, investigators say he attempted to hide inside a shed. Special police units reportedly had to use a battering ram to force open the door before arresting him. During the search of the premises, officers found the green bag containing the remaining cash, which investigators believe directly links the suspects to the Karaburma murder.
All three suspects have been ordered into custody by the Higher Court in Belgrade due to the risk of flight and concerns over public safety. Prosecutors are expected to use the recovered cash and the Volkswagen purchased with the allegedly stolen money as key piece
