The Special Prosecutor’s Office in Priština has filed an indictment against 20 people, accusing them of allegedly committing war crimes against the civilian population in Đakovica, with a proposal for them to be tried in absentia because they are unavailable to local judicial authorities.

The prosecution announced that the indictment was filed against Milovan Kovačević, Radomir Čolić, Miloš Dosan, Predrag Ristić, Srđan Krstić, Ljubiša Obradović, Živko Sarić, Spaso Sarić, Lazar Drašković, Zvonko Ristić, Darko Gligorijević, Čedomir Božović, Vladimir Božović, Robert Dobrunaj, Radomir Raković, Ljubiša Raković, Miloš Šćepanović, Milan Radoičić, Svetislav Gligorijević, and Tomica Avramović.

They are charged, according to the indictment, with the criminal offense of “war crime against the civilian population.”

According to the indictment, “during 1998–1999, M. K., in the capacity of head of the Secretariat of Internal Affairs (SUP) in Đakovica, R. Č., as commander of the Special Police Units (PJP), and M. D., as commander of the 52nd Rocket Artillery Brigade, together with the accused P. R., S. K., L. O., Ž. S., S. S., L. D., Z. R., D. G., Č. B., V. B., R. B., R. R., L. R., M. Š., M. R., S. G., and T. A., as members of the aforementioned units, are accused of participating in the killing of 107 civilians during a major military-police operation.”

The indictment states that during the operation, the accused “first separated women and children from men.”

According to the allegations, women were “deprived of gold jewelry, money, and other valuables,” while men were executed — some in their homes and yards, and others at a location known as “Talića Bridge.” The indictment also alleges that houses were burned.
