Preparations for the major Vidovdan protest, “Everything Becomes Visible on Vidovdan,” organized by students from across Serbia, are nearing completion. A large number of people from all over the country are expected to gather in Kraljevo on Sunday, June 28. The rally will last from 11 a.m. until the evening hours.

Some of the students and citizens will arrive at the gathering by walking from Kragujevac, setting off a day earlier, while others will travel by their own means. A student from Kraljevo told Nova.rs that their goal is to mark this major holiday together and reflect on the events that have shaped the recent period because everything “becomes much clearer on Vidovdan.”

“This gathering will essentially be a ceremonial observance of Vidovdan, one of our most important national and religious holidays. The plan is to organize the event in two segments—the fair section of the gathering from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., and the main program beginning at 6:00 p.m., which will last until the evening. In addition, we will welcome the walkers who are setting off from Kragujevac tomorrow. The gathering will take place in the very center of the city, at the Square of Serbian Warriors, and will likely extend to the area in front of the municipal building and the surrounding streets,” the student from Kraljevo said.

Considering that this is a major national gathering rather than a local one, as students from across Serbia have worked together on its organization, he said they expect a large turnout in Kraljevo on Sunday.

“I can say that the goal of this gathering is to come together on Vidovdan, mark the holiday, and reflect on the events that have shaped the recent period, shaken the public, and made things clearer than they were before. Essentially, we’ll see what becomes visible on Vidovdan,” the student told Nova.rs.

He pointed out that at last year’s gathering the police had minimal involvement because the students have their own stewarding service responsible for security.

“This gathering has been reported to the police, and I believe we will have very good cooperation with them. As far as we are concerned, we have fulfilled all legal requirements. I expect there will be provocations, but I believe they will be minimal,” he said.

The student noted that there will also be activities for children before the gathering, from 11:00 a.m. until around 2:00 p.m., when the fair section of the event is scheduled to begin.

“We have always organized activities for all age groups, and of course there are parents who would like to keep their children engaged during the gathering. Our students from the Faculty of Education, as well as teachers working in Kraljevo and other parts of Serbia, will also be there,” he emphasized.

He believes that support for the students will become even stronger after this gathering.

“I believe it will, especially because Kraljevo hasn’t hosted a gathering of this size in a long time, and it may even become the largest gathering ever held in the city. That will certainly help people overcome their fears and offer the public something new, at least here in Kraljevo and the surrounding area—something people haven’t seen before. We’ll show that students in every city across Serbia have something to offer,” he said.

Nova.rs’ interviewee added that people have become accustomed to such gatherings being held in larger cities, but he believes a large number of people will attend, both from Kraljevo and from the rest of Serbia.

“Kraljevo is not a small city, but it’s not like Belgrade, Novi Sad, Niš, or Kragujevac either. I think the gathering will attract a large number of citizens. As for my fellow citizens, I know they have always turned out in large numbers, including during some of our smaller actions, such as printing T-shirts for the protest. I know we will warmly welcome and host everyone who comes to our beautiful city,” the student from Kraljevo concluded.

As a reminder, the Students in Blockade movement has published a detailed program for the gathering to be held in Kraljevo on June 28. According to posts on social media, a children’s booth will be set up in Saint Sava Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

After that, until 5 p.m., the fair section will be held at several locations—the Municipal Building, Ribnica Shopping Center, the Square of Serbian Warriors, and Lidl in the Vojno Naselje neighborhood. The main program will begin at 6 p.m. at the Square of Serbian Warriors.

“The past only gains meaning if we think about the future. Everything becomes visible on Vidovdan,” the Students in Blockade said earlier.

It is also worth recalling that on June 13, the Students in Blockade called on citizens to join them for this protest on June 28 in Kraljevo. Last year, the students also held one of their largest protests in Belgrade on this major holiday.
