North Macedonia’s state-owned natural gas transmission company Noma gas today hired the construction company Rapid bild from Kumanovo to design and build the North Macedonia–Serbia interconnector gas pipeline.
The directors of Noma gas and Rapid bild, Nedi Rama and Toni Karanfilovski, signed the agreement on the design and construction of the interconnector gas pipeline at the Government of North Macedonia in the presence of Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources Sanja Božinovska.
After the signing of the agreement, Rama said that Rapid bild’s offer of €29.4 million was the most favorable and that the deadline for full completion of the project is the fourth quarter of 2028.
“Following the completed contract award procedure, Rapid bild’s offer was selected as the most favorable, worth €29.4 million. This is a ‘turnkey’ contract under the FIDIC model, which includes urban planning, design, construction, and obtaining an operating permit,” Rama said.
The Macedonian section of the interconnector will be 22.4 kilometers long, with a diameter of 500 millimeters. The starting point will be at the “Klečovce” block station, and the endpoint will be at the border with Serbia, near the village of Sopot.
As part of the project, five auxiliary facilities will also be built: the main interconnector metering station, a reduction station, a block station, and two receiving and dispatch stations for cleaning.
The planned technical capacity of the gas pipeline is up to 160,000 cubic meters of gas per hour, with the possibility of bidirectional flows, while the deadline for full completion of the project is the fourth quarter of 2028.
Prime Minister of North Macedonia Hristijan Mickoski said he expects that after the completion of this project and the pipeline with Greece, his country, sometime toward the end of 2028, will obtain a fully vertical connection that is part of Corridor 10 and a better geostrategic position.
“The country’s geostrategic position becomes dramatically more significant after these projects are implemented, compared with what it was in the past. To be more precise, compared with where we are today,” Mickoski said.
