Pošta Srbije (Serbian Post) announced today that the illegal takeover of its facility in Sočanica, near Leposavić in the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija, where a sign bearing the insignia of the so-called Kosovo Post has been installed, is a continuation of theft and pressure on Serbs in the province.
“The illegal takeover of premises owned by Serbian Post in Sočanica, the opening of a fake post office, and the display of the name of the illegitimate ‘Kosovo Post’ are the latest grave provocation by the authorities in Pristina, a theft, a continuation of political pressure, and a direct attack on the rights and property of the Serbian state and the lives of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija,” the statement said.
It is emphasized that this action by Pristina is unacceptable and contrary to all applicable international standards and signed agreements. It adds that this represents a new attack and hinders the company’s operations, and primarily further endangers the lives of the Serb population in Kosovo and Metohija.
“Serbian Post will continue to fight for the rights of our people and employees, the preservation of property, and the enabling of the normal functioning of postal services in the interest of all citizens,” the statement reads.
The authorities in Pristina placed a sign with the insignia of the Kosovo Post on the building housing the Serbian Post branch in Sočanica, after the illegal mayor of Leposavić, Ljuljzim Hetemi, demanded last week that the inventory be removed and stated that the building belonged to the Pristina authorities.
