A Serbian citizen (50) caused a traffic accident on Wednesday while drunk on the A1 motorway in Croatia, at Neretić near Karlovac, in which two of his passengers, 23-year-old and 24-year-old citizens of Nepal, were killed, the Karlovac police announced today.
The statement notes that the accident occurred when the Serbian citizen, under the influence of 2.22 per mille of alcohol and driving a car with Dubrovnik license plates in a southbound direction, failed to stay in the center of the marked traffic lane and instead turned right off the road onto a grassy surface.
The vehicle struck a metal safety fence, overturned several times, and flew down a slope.
The passengers in the vehicle, citizens of Nepal, were killed in the accident, while the 50-year-old driver sustained minor injuries.
The investigation established that the driver was wearing a seat belt, but the passengers were not.
A criminal complaint will be filed against the driver, and he will be taken into custody, the police in Karlovac announced.
