After a year at the prestigious University of Arizona, Serbian athlete Dunja Sikima (20) has experienced great progress and confirmed that talents are born in Zrenjanin. Especially athletic ones.
Ivana Španović is the best example, as through hard work she reached the title of the best ever when the “queen” of sports in Serbia is concerned. However, AK Banat has new young talents to offer as well.
Sikima announced her lavish talent in 2021 when, at the age of fifteen, she combined the titles of state champion in the senior competition both indoors and outdoors at the 1,500-meter distance, and during the next two years, she won a large number of medals, defending the indoor title in 2022, and winning gold in the 800 meters outdoors in 2023.
Successes from the Balkan Games for youth and the European Team Championships in the Serbian national team gear are also remembered, and she is only now coming to the fore as she is still only 20 years old.
She did not turn down the invitation from Arizona, and there she showed how much she has progressed this year. Thus, twice in a short period of time, she broke her personal record and finished on the podium.
In the 800-meter race at the Bryan Clay, she first took second place with a personal record of 2:06.49, and then five days ago at the “Desert Heat Arizona Tucson,” she won third position and further pushed the record to 2:05.95.
By the way, her teammate at Arizona is Crvena zvezda athlete Bogdan Vidojković.
A member of AK Banat is also the now 18-year-old Una Jovanović, who will have her first competition of this summer season on May 9th in Bratislava. The state champion in the 200 meters and winner of several other senior silver and bronze medals, she is the future of the Serbian sprint.
