Young champion Boris Jakšić won the bronze medal in the under-8 category at the World Rapid Chess Championship.

In an extremely strong field, Boris collected 7.5 points and thus crowned the first part of the six-day program of this prestigious competition in the most beautiful way.

After three days of exciting battles and 11 rounds played, the rapid chess tournament, which gathered 432 players from 40 national federations, has concluded. Participating in the fight for medals were 72 competitors from 11 countries, and the most successful nation was Kazakhstan with 11 medals won (5 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze), while representatives of Russia took second place with 10 medals (2 gold, 4 silver, and 4 bronze).

Particularly interesting were the contests in the junior competition, where the main favorites confirmed their quality. The tournament’s top seeds, Aldiyar Ansat from Kazakhstan in the open competition and Afruza Khamdamova from Uzbekistan in the girls’ junior section, justified their high ratings and climbed to the highest podium. After the great results in rapid chess, the competition continues in the blitz disciplines.
