The FIFA World Cup being held in Mexico, Canada and the United States has begun, and already on the second day of the tournament a major scandal has shaken America. As exclusively reported by the German newspaper Bild, a person disguised as the iconic movie killer from the horror franchise Scream began a random shooting spree in the city where the German national football team is staying!
The German national team is based in the town of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, which has a population of around 250,000. It was in this very place that a terrifying scene resembling a Hollywood thriller unfolded. An unidentified attacker, wearing the recognizable “Ghostface” mask, walked through the streets and spread panic among local residents.
Fired at a Victim Who Was Running Away
According to local American media reports, the attacker was armed with a handgun. Several television stations urgently reported on the incident, while the portal CBS 17 News revealed details of a police interview with one of the victims who narrowly escaped death.
“Police interviewed a victim who stated that they noticed an unknown armed person near their home. When the victim began to run away, the attacker fired a shot in their direction. The bullet missed the person and struck a parked vehicle that fortunately was unoccupied, so there were no injuries,” local media reported.
Local police immediately launched an extensive search for the attacker. According to the official description, the suspect is believed to be approximately 170 centimeters tall, of athletic and slim build, and was dressed entirely in black at the time of the attack.
German National Team on Alert?
The entire incident took place on Bridgeton Road, located in the southern part of Winston-Salem. Although this area is known as exceptionally peaceful and safe, concern is high because the shooting location is about 13 kilometers (8 miles) from the luxury camp where Germany’s football stars are staying.
The public and media have already drawn a bizarre parallel — the plot of the famous horror film Scream is largely set on university campuses and among students, which strikingly resembles the environment of Wake Forest University, where Germany’s national team trains every day. While police continue their intensive search for the attacker, security around the German team’s base has been raised to the highest level to ensure peace ahead of their first World Cup matches.
