Prince Hereditary Philip Karađorđević and Princess Danica hosted His Imperial Highness Grand Duke Georgy Mikhailovich Romanov, heir to the Russian Imperial House, and his wife, Princess Victoria Romanovna, at the Royal Palace in Dedinje. The meeting was marked by the nurturing of the historical, cultural, and spiritual ties between Serbia and Russia.
Prince Philip emphasized that it was a great honor for him to welcome the distinguished guests from the House of Romanov to the Royal Palace, where they discussed the importance of preserving their shared heritage and traditional values.
“It was a great pleasure for me to welcome our esteemed guests to the Royal Palace and to speak with them about the importance of preserving the historical, spiritual, and cultural heritage that connects our peoples and our dynasties,” said Prince Philip.
The distinguished guests were also welcomed by Crown Prince Alexander Karađorđević, head of the Royal House.
During the talks, special attention was devoted to the long-standing ties between the Karađorđević and Romanov dynasties, which, as Prince Philip emphasized, are founded on mutual respect, friendship, and a shared Orthodox tradition.
“The House of Karađorđević and the House of Romanov are connected by long and sincere ties of friendship, mutual respect, and the shared Orthodox faith. During the meeting, we reflected on the importance of nurturing these ties, as well as on the role that historic dynasties can play in preserving tradition, supporting humanitarian and cultural initiatives, and strengthening friendship between Serbia and Russia,” he stressed.
The Special Symbolism of the Meeting in Dedinje
Prince Philip also pointed to the symbolism of the fact that the meeting was held precisely at the Royal Palace in Dedinje, one of the most significant landmarks of Serbia’s royal heritage, designed by the renowned Russian architect Nikolai Krasnov.
He recalled that Krasnov, after the revolution in Russia, found refuge in the then Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, where he left an indelible mark through his work.
The historical role of King Alexander I the Unifier was also particularly highlighted, as he provided refuge to tens of thousands of Russian émigrés after the collapse of the Russian Empire.
“Guided by brotherly love for the Russian people and devotion to our shared Orthodox values, my great-grandfather, His Majesty King Alexander I the Unifier, opened the doors of his country to tens of thousands of Russian refugees. Thanks to his support, many of them continued their work in our country and left a profound mark on the development of the state, culture, science, and the arts,” said Prince Philip.
Continuation of a Historic Legacy
As he assessed, the meeting of the descendants of two great European dynasties serves as a reminder of the enduring ties that have connected the Serbian and Russian peoples for centuries.
“I was especially pleased to have the opportunity to host Grand Duke Georgy Mikhailovich, who, as the heir to the Russian Imperial House, continues the glorious legacy of the House of Romanov, and Princess Victoria Romanovna, with whom he is dedicatedly involved in numerous socially beneficial and charitable activities,” Prince Philip stated.
In conclusion, he expressed confidence that the friendly relations between the two houses will continue to contribute to strengthening the cultural and spiritual ties between Serbia and Russia.
“I am convinced that the friendly relations between our houses will continue in the future to contribute to strengthening the spiritual and cultural ties of our peoples, for the benefit of future generations,” concluded Hereditary Prince Philip.
