Debacle for Red Star! After a 3:0 victory in Belgrade, they lost 1:5 to Viktoria Plzeň in the second leg of the Europa League playoff and dropped into the Conference League.

With disastrous mistakes by Učena and Lukasen and Bukari’s red card, they were heading toward a horror scenario in the Czech Republic. Three penalties were awarded to the hosts, two of which were converted, the second in the 94th minute to force extra time.

The first was conceded by Učena, the second by Lukasen, and the third by Čam against Viktoria’s goalkeeper. Makelie’s decision in stoppage time was debatable, but it is sad and shameful that Red Star’s players allowed themselves to reach the point where they depended on that decision.

Extra time followed, and with ten men, Red Star had no chance against an opponent on the offensive.

They conceded in the 95th minute, and that was already the end of the story.

Alberto Riera’s talk of dominating the return leg was baseless, because he still has not realized how many weaknesses there are in the group of players he took over, while the opponent also had something to say on their home turf.

Red Star conceded an early goal, but absorbed the pressure with a quick equalizer through Ivanić and maintained a three-goal advantage on aggregate. No one suspected what awaited the Red-Whites by the end.

The Serbian champions’ horror show continued in the second half. Učena and Bukari put the team in enormous trouble, and when Lukasen joined in, complete disaster threatened.

After Učena conceded a penalty at 1:1 and Mateus saved the spot kick, Bukari received a red card for striking a player without the ball, and Lukasen soon conceded a penalty that gave Plzeň hope that they could pull off the upset.

When Hrošovský beat Učena in the 63rd minute and scored, the stands “exploded,” and the numerically inferior Red-Whites were reduced to a one-goal advantage on aggregate.

They somehow held out, yet still conceded a goal that will be talked about extensively and viewed with suspicion, but it is shameful for Red Star how they looked on the pitch throughout the entire second half.
