Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump held a phone conversation covering the most important international issues, including the war in Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, and prospects for future cooperation between the two countries.

According to Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, the conversation was initiated by the U.S. president, lasted approximately one hour and 25 minutes, and was described as businesslike and highly constructive.

At the beginning of the call, Putin congratulated Trump and the American people on U.S. Independence Day, which this year marked the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia in 1776. The two leaders then focused on the situation in Ukraine, with Putin presenting his assessment of the situation on the battlefield and reiterating Moscow’s position that it supports a political and diplomatic resolution to the conflict while taking Russia’s interests into account.

According to the Kremlin, Trump once again stated that he is prepared to help bring about a swift end to the hostilities and find a peaceful solution through the engagement of his special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. The two presidents also discussed the possibility of deepening U.S.-Russian cooperation after the conflict in Ukraine comes to an end, with Trump emphasizing that he sees significant potential for strengthening relations between Moscow and Washington.

The conversation also highlighted the importance of preserving the two nations’ shared historical legacy, with particular emphasis on the alliance between Russia (then the Soviet Union) and the United States during World War II. The Middle East was another major topic, with Putin expressing hope that negotiations between the United States and Iran could lead to mutually acceptable, long-term solutions. He also reaffirmed Russia’s willingness to provide practical assistance in stabilizing the situation in the region.

At the conclusion of the conversation, the two leaders agreed to speak again soon, while Putin once again invited Trump to visit Russia. According to the Kremlin, this was their fourth phone conversation since the beginning of the year and their fourteenth since Trump’s return to the White House in 2025, taking place 20 days after their previous contact.
