THE STORY IS FAR FROM OVER: Djokovic Chases His 106th Wimbledon Victory Against Dangerous Russian!

Novak Djokovic, the seven-time Wimbledon champion, will take on Roman Safiullin today in the fourth round as he bids to reach his 17th quarterfinal at the All England Club.

At 39 years old, Djokovic arrived at Wimbledon 2026 determined to add another trophy to his record haul of 24 Grand Slam titles by capturing another crown at the unofficial World Championship of tennis.

He has already cleared three hurdles, defeating Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech (3-1), Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas (3-0), and China’s Yibing Wu (3-1). Today, he faces Safiullin in a match scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Centre Court. A victory would mark Djokovic’s 106th Wimbledon win and see him once again move ahead of his former great rival Roger Federer in the statistical record books on the grass courts of London.

“It will be interesting. He’s an excellent baseline hitter, plays very flat and aggressively, stays close to the baseline, and has a very good serve, although not as powerful as Rinderknech’s, which is good for me. On the other hand, it will be a different kind of challenge. I hope I’ll be ready,” Djokovic said ahead of the match, emphasizing that the challenges of Wimbledon continue to inspire him to perform at his highest level.

Safiullin, 28, currently ranked No. 132 in the ATP rankings, reached the fourth round after coming through qualifying and winning three matches, including an impressive victory over talented Brazilian Joao Fonseca. He has faced Djokovic three times previously and lost all three encounters in straight sets—in Tel Aviv in 2022, Monte Carlo in 2024, and Shanghai later that same year. Today’s match gives him another opportunity to challenge one of the greatest tennis players of all time.

Should Djokovic live up to his favorite status and overcome the aggressive Russian, he will face the winner of the quarterfinal clash between Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime and Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Another deep run at Wimbledon would further cement Djokovic’s legacy as a player who continues to redefine the limits of tennis even in the later stages of his career.
