From this summer season, tourists and citizens of Ulcinj will have to strictly pay attention to their way of dressing when they are outside the beach zones. The Municipal Assembly of Ulcinj adopted a new decision prohibiting moving around in swimsuits and beachwear in public areas.
As announced by the local self-government, the restriction applies to streets, squares, parks, and other public spaces within the city. The goal of this measure is to preserve public order, decency, and the reputation of Ulcinj as a prestigious tourist destination.
It is important to emphasize that this ban does not apply to the beaches themselves, nor to the coastal tourist zones directly intended for swimmers. However, as soon as they leave the zone by the sea, visitors will have to be adequately dressed.
The decision was made in order to prevent situations in which tourists in bikinis or without shirts walk through the city center, shops, or religious facilities, which has been causing resentment among a part of the public for years.
Those who decide to ignore the new rules risk a serious blow to their pockets. For physical persons who move around in inadequate clothing outside the permitted zones, fines in the amount of 350 to 500 euros are prescribed.
The competent inspection services will increase controls on promenades and squares during the season to ensure compliance with this decision.
“Let’s respect the rules, let’s protect Ulcinj”
The Municipality appeals to all visitors to adhere to the dress code and show respect towards the local community. Under the slogan “Let’s respect the rules. Let’s protect Ulcinj!”, local authorities emphasize the importance of responsible behavior and preserving the cleanliness and dignity of the city which is “our common home”.
This measure places Ulcinj among numerous Mediterranean cities, like those in Croatia and Italy, which previously introduced similar bans in order to protect their cultural and tourist identity.
