Massachusetts State Lottery officials have identified the local woman who won $2 million in Powerball on the same day that someone in Illinois won $1.04 billion.
Almasa Cajić from Lynn purchased the winning ticket at a store on Eastern Avenue in Malden. The store will receive a $20,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket, NBC Boston reports.
Cajić won the prize after the first five numbers on her ticket matched the first five numbers drawn last Wednesday, lottery officials said. By paying an additional $1 for the “Power Play” option, she managed to turn the $1 million prize into $2 million. To win the jackpot, all five winning numbers plus the Powerball number must match the numbers drawn.
She Will Buy a House in Bosnia
She claimed her $2 million prize (before taxes) on Thursday at the Massachusetts State Lottery headquarters in Dorchester. She told lottery officials that she plans to use her winnings to buy one house in Massachusetts and another in Bosnia.
Last week’s $1.04 billion jackpot was the eighth-largest in Powerball history.
