Acting on the orders of the Special Department for Combating Corruption of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade, members of the Anti-Corruption Service detained Republic Hydrometeorological Service (RHMZ) Director Jugoslav Nikolić (71), while police also arrested his wife, O. N. (71), and son, Đ. N. (45), Telegraf has confirmed.

As Telegraf has already reported, Nikolić is suspected of having transferred and converted assets worth at least €650,000 together with his wife and son between November 2019 and November 2024 in Belgrade, Čačak, Užice, Bajina Bašta and Montenegro, knowing that the assets originated from criminal activity and intending to conceal their illegal origin.

All three suspects are charged with money laundering, while Nikolić is additionally charged with failing to report assets and income or providing false information about his assets and income. There are grounds to suspect that, during the aforementioned period, Nikolić made cash deposits totaling 41,878,195.00 dinars, €43,150 and 44,760 Swiss francs into accounts held at a bank, despite having no legitimate income to account for the money. He also purchased real estate in Belgrade, Užice and Montenegro.

Furthermore, regarding the aforementioned increase in his assets, he failed to submit reports on significant changes in his property to the Anti-Corruption Agency, despite being required to do so under Article 69 of the Law on the Prevention of Corruption in his capacity as a public official and director of the RHMZ.

O. N. is suspected of having transferred at least €227,548 between June 2021 and 2023, for which she had no legitimate source of income, to purchase several properties, including apartments, a garage space and commercial premises in Čačak and Montenegro.

Đ. N. is suspected of having transferred at least 1.5 million dinars in June 2021 to purchase an apartment in Montenegro.

There are also grounds to suspect that Nikolić and O. N. transferred assets on November 22, 2024, in Čačak, and on November 28, 2024, in Montenegro, knowing that the assets originated from criminal activity and intending to conceal their illegal origin. They allegedly did so by signing a lifetime property transfer and distribution agreement before a public notary in Čačak, through which they transferred to Đ. N. all ownership rights they held over several apartments, garage spaces and cadastral plots, as well as one commercial property.

The suspects have been placed in custody for up to 48 hours, during which time they will be brought before the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade for questioning.
