The United States Department of Justice has released previously unseen documents from the files of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, including interviews and notes by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) with a woman from South Carolina who made allegations against Epstein and U.S. President Donald Trump, NBC reported.
In interviews from 2019, the woman claimed that Epstein sexually assaulted her, while she accused Trump of assault in the 1980s, when she was between 13 and 15 years old. The interviews also state that Epstein blackmailed her mother and that she received threats for years which she believed were sent by Epstein. The FBI documented allegations of transportation to New York or New Jersey and alleged incidents in a “very tall building with enormous rooms.”
FIND OUT MORE:
The woman initially contacted federal authorities shortly after Epstein’s arrest in 2019, and the FBI considered her allegations serious enough to interview her in three additional interviews. The fourth interview was shortened. The new documents do not contain information about an assessment of the credibility of her claims. The U.S. Department of Justice had previously removed 47,635 files from the internet for review and redaction, including information about victims and sexually explicit materials, and on Thursday released files that had been mistakenly coded as duplicates.
The White House has repeatedly referred to earlier statements by the Department of Justice stating that some documents contain sensationalist and unfounded claims against Trump, and authorities have not charged Trump with any wrongdoing related to Epstein. The woman filed a lawsuit against Epstein in 2019, which ended with a voluntary dismissal in 2021.
The new documents will also be available to members of Congress in a reading room, including files previously labeled as duplicates. The release of the files came a day after the House Oversight Committee, led by Republicans, called on Attorney General Pam Bondi to testify about the Department of Justice’s handling of the Epstein files.
Representative Robert Garcia criticized the previous withholding of documents and wrote: “We will end this White House cover-up.”
