Dragiša Grujić (57), a member of the security detail of the head of the Service for Combating Organized Crime (SBPOK) Marko Zafirović, and a former member of the Protection Unit (JZO), was arrested recently on suspicion of extorting 10,000 euros, Radar learns.

Grujić moved from the JZO to the Criminal Police Directorate when his former commander Marko Kričak was appointed as its head, who took him along as a loyal associate. This influx of loyalist staff from the JZO into the top ranks of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) included several dozen members of this unit who had previously distinguished themselves in the harassment of students and citizens.

As Radar learns from reliable sources, before his employment at the MUP, Grujić was a member of the notorious Special Operations Unit (JSO) and is the same age as the convicted commander of that unit, Milorad Ulemek Legija. According to the same sources, Grujić was a cold weapon specialist in the JSO.

Grujić was spotted several times in Ćacilend, and as we learn, he was one of the police officers recognized by Zoran Milić, a pensioner from Kosjerić, as a person in the group of people who harassed and choked him in the period leading up to the local elections in that town.

It is indicative that Grujić’s superior, Marko Zafirović, did not even appear before the prosecutor at the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade to give a statement about the entire case, which adds an additional dimension to this development. Informed sources from the MUP point out that the arrest of Grujić indicates a showdown at the top of the UKP between mutually feuding newly appointed staff, and that Kričak no longer enjoys the trust of even his closest associates. In this context, it is worth mentioning that neither the Ministry of Internal Affairs nor the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade has made an announcement on this matter, pointing to an attempt at damage control in this highly sensitive case for the MUP.
