The competent professional services of the Public Utility Company City Public Transport Company (GSP) “Belgrade” have concluded the analysis regarding the derailment of a tram at the intersection of Cara Dušana and Knićaninova streets and determined that it was exclusively the mistake and responsibility of the tram driver that led to the incident, BeoInfo reported today.
Based on the performed examinations, inspections, and submitted reports, it was undisputedly determined that the tram infrastructure was not the cause of the tram derailment, and an insight confirmed that the switch at the scene of the event was mechanically correct and functional, as well as that no deficiencies that could lead to the occurrence of such an event were found on the track and other infrastructure elements.
“We particularly point out that the subject section of the tram line with its associated infrastructure was reconstructed and opened for regular traffic at the beginning of 2021,” stated the competent services of GSP, adding also that all prescribed technical inspections and controls were carried out on the tram in a timely manner, including the regular night inspection performed the day before the subject event.
According to data from the information system for tracking vehicle movement, at the moment of approaching the switch, the tram was moving at a speed of 28 kilometers per hour, which is almost three times higher than the maximum allowed speed of 10 kilometers per hour prescribed for passing through a switch area, while the applicable regulations also provide for the obligation of a visual check of the switch position immediately before the vehicle passes.
All circumstances related to the actions of the participants in the event will be finally determined and assessed within the competent procedures, it was stated in the announcement.
The derailment of the tram at the intersection of Cara Dušana and Knićaninova streets occurred on May 25.
