On the occasion of May 9th – Victory Day over Fascism, the “Immortal Regiment” march was held in Banja Luka, in which numerous citizens carried photographs of their ancestors, victims and participants in the fight against fascism during World War II.
The march passed through the central city streets and ended at the Square of Fallen Fighters, where wreaths and flowers were laid at the monument to the victims of fascism. In addition to photographs of ancestors, participants also carried flags of Republika Srpska, Russia, and the former Yugoslavia.
Representatives of SUBNOR, ministers in the Government of Republika Srpska, members of parliament, members of the Third Infantry Republika Srpska Regiment, as well as the Ambassador of Russia to BiH, Igor Kalabukhov, participated in the commemoration.
After the march, an address by officials and an appropriate artistic program were organized at the Square of Fallen Fighters. Victory Day over Fascism is observed in memory of May 9, 1945, when the unconditional capitulation of Nazi Germany came into force, thereby ending World War II in Europe.
