Just three days after the snap parliamentary elections, won by the Student List, a website called preletači.rs was launched. The platform is designed to publish reports about the public activities of holders of public and political office and candidates, with a particular focus on changes in their political affiliations.
The Republic Electoral Commission (REC) announced that, based on 8,077 processed polling stations out of a total of 8,392, the Student List won 52.54 percent of the votes cast in the snap parliamentary elections. According to the REC’s figures, the “United Serbia” list, formed around the Serbian Progressive Party, won 39.29 percent of the vote.
Three days after the Student List won the parliamentary elections, a website called preletači.rs appeared.
According to the website, preletači.rs is a free, non-commercial platform where registered users can submit reports about the public activities of holders of public and political office and candidates — covering information those individuals have made public themselves, including statements, posts, public appearances, positions and memberships, with particular emphasis on changes in political affiliation.
“Each report is submitted by a user and supported by publicly available sources. Before publication, each report undergoes a brief formal review, which is not a verification of the truthfulness of the claims or an editorial process. The website operator does not establish the truthfulness of the claims or endorse them as its own, and the reports are not calls for any action to be taken against the individuals named,” the project’s explanation states.
The list currently includes Milan Antonijević, Commissioner for the Protection of Equality; Aleksandar Obućina, student vice-dean of the Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade; Dobrosav Dević, a member of the Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, an associate of the Center for Social Stability, and a member of the Committee on European Integration and the Committee on Regulations; as well as Zana Dolićanin, former rector of the State University of Novi Pazar.
The mere fact that someone’s name appears on the platform does not confirm that the person has changed their political affiliation, since the website’s administrators do not verify the truthfulness of user-submitted reports.
