Chicago’s legendary New Year’s Eve fireworks display along the Chicago Riverwalk will return for 2025.

The iconic New Year’s Eve fireworks display along the Chicago River will return this year to ring in 2025, according to a release from the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events.

The spectacular display, sponsored by the City of Chicago in partnership with ART on THE MART, is separate from the fireworks planned for Navy Pier.

The festivities will kick off at 10:00 p.m. on December 31st, and the city’s New Year’s Eve celebration will include a projection on ART on THE MART, leading up to the midnight countdown, the release states. Once the clock strikes midnight, the Chicago Riverwalk fireworks will be launched from six bridges in the city’s downtown along the Chicago River.

The best place to view the fireworks will be along the Chicago River, with Upper Wacker Drive from McClurg Court to Franklin Street being a prime viewing location, the release states, and fireworks will be launched from the Orleans Street, La Salle Drive, Clark Street, Dearborn Street, State Street, and Columbus Drive bridges.

“I’m thrilled that we can once again bring the fireworks back to the Chicago River for New Year’s Eve,” said DCASE Commissioner, Erin Hartigan, in a statement. “It’s a spectacular display that is befitting of our great city, and a way for us to turn the page on 2024 as we look forward to all that 2025 will bring.”

The event will also have a number of traffic impacts and street closures, the release states, and the Riverwalk will be closed from 11:00 p.m. on December 31st. A section from Wells Street to Orleans Street will remain open to spectators until 12:15 a.m., the release states.

The following street closures are planned, according to DCASE:

  • Bridges will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic on Orleans, La Salle, Clark, Dearborn, State, and Columbus on December 31st from 11:45 p.m. to 12:15 a.m.
  • Additional streets and bridges may be closed as the midnight countdown approaches, DCASE states.
