Great news for Serbian canoe sprint came from Canada. Marko Dragosavljević achieved a major success at the World Cup in Montreal, winning the gold medal after a dramatic and closely contested race. The Serbian paddler showed true championship character, finding the strength to prevail when it mattered most.

Marko Dragosavljević stood atop the podium in the men’s K1 200-meter event. In a race decided by the smallest of margins, the Serbian national team member crossed the finish line in 35.78 seconds to claim the gold medal.

Just how close the final was is best illustrated by the fact that Andrea Di Liberto of Italy recorded the exact same time, meaning the two competitors shared the gold medal.

The bronze medal went to Arturas Seja of Lithuania, who finished the race in 35.85 seconds.

Dragosavljević displayed excellent form throughout the competition, making his gold-medal performance anything but a surprise. He finished first in both the heats and the semifinal, making it clear that he was ready to fight for the top prize.

“I Paddled for My Family”

Marko Dragosavljević shared his first impressions after winning the gold medal and revealed what gave him extra motivation in the closing stages of the race.

“This was for my soul. I’m very happy that I competed here and managed to win the gold medal. I paddled for my family, for my daughter and my son. This is yours! Tomorrow we have the K2 race. We’ll be fully professional and we’ll try to achieve another great result,” Dragosavljević said.

Strong performances had already marked the earlier part of his season. At numerous competitions, he consistently recorded impressive finishes and was often only hundredths of a second away from the podium.

However, he never lost faith or gave up. He continued to work hard, believed in himself and his team, and his dedication, patience, and perseverance were rewarded with the best possible outcome—a gold medal.

Winning gold in the K1 200-meter event was a major achievement, but it is not the end of Marko’s campaign at this year’s World Cup in Montreal.

There will be little time for celebration, as another challenge awaits him tomorrow at 4:55 p.m. Serbian time. In the K2 event, he will team up with Žarko Jakovljević, hoping to bring Serbia another medal.
