ARREST IN NOVI SAD: A woman damaged the Post of Serbia for almost one and a half million dinars, withdrew money from clients’ accounts!

The police in Novi Sad arrested a suspect on suspicion of damaging the Post of Serbia for 1.4 million dinars, the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office announced today.

As reported, it is suspected that S.M., from February to August of the previous year, as the responsible accountant of a work unit of the Post of Serbia, caused a shortage totaling 1,400,056.78 dinars through improper cash handling, thereby damaging that public enterprise.

According to the prosecutor’s office, S.M. then, in order to conceal the resulting shortage, withdrew money from the current account of a client of Banka Postanska stedionica without authorization, after which she subsequently returned the funds by depositing them into the client’s account.

The suspect will, in accordance with the law, be brought in and questioned at the Special Department for the Suppression of Corruption of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad.
