A severe traffic accident occurred last night after midnight in Fruskogorska Street in Martinci near Sremska Mitrovica, when eighteen-year-old O. D. lost his life, it was confirmed by the Emergency Services.

According to current information, the accident occurred when a “Ford” car, for reasons not yet determined, ran off the road, crossed over a culvert, and ended up overturned in a ditch.

N. M. (22), B. R. (23), and O. D. (18) were in the vehicle. Unfortunately, the young man died on the spot from the injuries sustained, while the other two people were injured and transported for further medical treatment.

The police, Emergency Services teams, and firefighting-rescue units intervened at the scene of the accident. Due to the severity of the crash and the position of the vehicle in the ditch, firefighters worked for hours to extract the car.

The tragedy has shaken the residents of Martinci, and friends and acquaintances are saying goodbye to the deceased young man.

-He was hardworking, responsible, and favorite among his peers. The fact that he was supposed to celebrate his prom night the next day hurts especially – his friends said.

The cause of the accident and all the circumstances under which the tragedy occurred will be determined after the investigation by the competent authorities.
