Helene Sula, a TikToker known as @heleneinbetween, frequently travels across Europe. In one of her recent TikTok posts, she decided to rate all the Balkan countries. She states that she adores the Balkans and believes everyone should visit, having explored almost all of them herself.
Croatia – The Most Expensive, But for a Reason
For Croatia, she says it’s the most popular Balkan country, but also the most expensive. However, she doesn’t mind, as she was enchanted by its incredibly beautiful coast and islands, stunning architecture, and excellent food. “Croatia has the best olive oil in the world,” she notes.
Serbia – Harsh Appearance, But Great Fun
Serbia struck her as somewhat harsh, with many communist-era apartment blocks, but she was delighted by Belgrade’s nightlife and the beauty of Novi Sad.
Bulgaria – Monasteries and Lakes
In Bulgaria, she particularly liked the Rila Monastery and the Seven Rila Lakes, and she describes Sofia as a beautiful, traditional European city.
Bosnia – A Pleasant Surprise
She didn’t expect to like Bosnia, but she completely fell in love with it, even though the scars of war are still visible. “The Mostar bridge and the people who jump from it are iconic for a reason,” she says.
Albania – The Biggest Shock
What surprised her the most, she says, was Albania. She was particularly captivated by the Albanian Alps but was also impressed by the Albanian beaches.
@heleneinbetween I love the Balkans!!! Yes I still need to go to Kosovo and north Macedonia! #balkans #montenegro #Croatia #seebia #albania #slovenia #bulgaria #romania ♬ original sound – Helene Sula – Travel Blogger
Slovenia – Like Being in Switzerland
She notes that Slovenia is so clean, green, and efficient that you’ll wonder if you’ve accidentally stepped into Switzerland. “Lake Bled looks like it’s painted.”
Romania – Fairytale Cities and Hospitable People
In Romania, she was captivated by the medieval towns that, she says, look like they came out of a fairytale, and she described the local people as the most hospitable among all Balkan nations.
Montenegro – A Natural Postcard
In Montenegro, she was amazed by the natural beauty. “Beaches, mountains, and lakes are at your fingertips, and they look like they’re straight out of a postcard.”
