A member of the Emergency Situations Sector, firefighter-rescuer Luka Bogićević from the Fire and Rescue Unit in Šabac, prevented an attempted robbery in the city this morning.
A man wearing a face mask and a hood entered a store immediately after Bogićević, pulled out a knife, and demanded that the employee hand over the money from the cash register.
Reacting calmly and courageously, firefighter-rescuer Bogićević confronted the suspect, overpowered him, and forced him out of the premises. Police officers soon identified and detained the suspect.
No one was injured, and no money was stolen.
“Heroism does not begin when the siren sounds – it is part of one’s character. That is why firefighter-rescuers are heroes not only during emergency interventions, but also in everyday life, when it is necessary to stand up and protect others,” the Ministry of the Interior said in a statement.
