A reader has informed N1 that residents of the village of Stubica are distressed because, she says, an unannounced military exercise involving gunfire took place last night in a public area — on the village streets. The Ministry of Defense, however, says its “training activities” in the wider area of “Pasuljanske Livade” had been reported in advance and that its personnel used “training ammunition.”
According to the N1 reader, whose name is known to the editorial team, residents of Stubica tried to obtain information from Ministry of Defense personnel last night, but they were ignored and given no explanation of what was happening.
“People are upset and under stress. People live here, and children walk through these streets. I repeat, it happened suddenly. Naturally, many of them feel intimidated and do not know whether this was some kind of show of force, an attempt to frighten the population, or simply a failure to communicate. In any case, it is unacceptable,” she explained.
She added that many residents have video recordings of the military exercise in question but are afraid to publish them because they were ultimately told not to film.
The Ministry of Defense also issued a statement regarding the incident, following the circulation of a video on social media showing training activities by members of the Serbian Armed Forces.
According to the Ministry, the activity was part of a “planned inspection of the condition, operational capabilities and functional readiness of one of the special units, conducted by the Defense Inspectorate.”
It explained that, given the specific nature of the unit being inspected, a tactical scenario had been set up to assess the forces’ ability to carry out tasks in an urban environment.
“We emphasize that only training ammunition was used during the activities. The Ministry of Internal Affairs, local government authorities, the ‘Južni Kučaj’ Forest Estate and the Hunting Association of Central Serbia were informed about plans to conduct training activities in the wider area of ‘Pasuljanske Livade’, involving the use of off-road vehicles, drones and training ammunition,” the Ministry said.
