Belgrade will host the 2029 Europa League final, Sport Klub exclusively reports. The 2029 Champions League final will be played in Barcelona!

The decision was made at a meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee in Thessaloniki. The Europa League final will be played on May 23, 2029, at the future National Stadium.

UEFA has remained consistent with its policy of balanced development and support for the region known as the Western Balkans. The leadership of European football’s governing body, headed by Aleksander Čeferin, in which Deputy General Secretary and Director of National Associations Zoran Laković has an important role, has once again sent positive signals to Belgrade. This has also been the practice in recent years, but the decision from Thessaloniki carries multiple layers of significance for Serbia.

Despite delays, certain problems and minor resistance, European football’s governing body found a way and gave the green light for the organization of the 2029 Europa League final. The National Stadium, with a capacity of 52,000, was originally scheduled to be completed next year.

According to the latest reports by colleagues at Forbes, construction is now expected to be completed only in early 2028. The reasons include additional requirements for stabilizing and reinforcing the ground, as well as a planned three-month suspension of construction from May to August next year. The reason is security-related during the EXPO 2027 event.

Over the past ten years, UEFA has repeatedly demonstrated and provided concrete support for Serbian football. Hosting the Europa League final is another confirmation of this approach.

Serbia will also co-host the 2027 European Under-21 Championship with Albania. In addition to Belgrade, the host cities will be Leskovac, Loznica and Bačka Topola. This project was also part of UEFA’s major support, while simultaneously representing an investment in strengthening regional cooperation in the Western Balkans.

European football’s governing body provided maximum financial assistance for the purchase of a building in New Belgrade. Intended to become the future headquarters of the Football Association of Serbia, it was purchased from a bank more than two years ago for €9.3 million.

Finally, the UEFA Congress was held in Belgrade last year. This was also the first time in history, as part of a broader project of support for Serbia and Serbian football.

The 2029 Champions League final will be held in Barcelona, at the renovated Camp Nou, whose capacity will be 105,000 seats!

European football’s governing body has symbolically sent a message about the need for balanced development across all parts of the Old Continent. Barcelona and Belgrade together, on the same wavelength, will host the two biggest finals in world football in two years. It could not have been better…
