Iranian state media have released a video they claim shows Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, who has not appeared in public for months, as unconfirmed reports about his health continue to circulate.

The state-run Mehr News Agency published the 12-second video on Saturday but did not disclose when or where it was recorded. As a result, it is currently impossible to independently verify whether the footage accurately reflects Khamenei’s current condition.

“Footage of the Leader of the Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, published for the first time,” Mehr wrote alongside the video.

The brief clip shows Khamenei seated on a carpet in an indoor setting, surrounded by several people with whom he appears to be conversing. He is wearing a black turban, a light gray robe, and white garments, and appears to be in good health.

However, the lack of any information about when the footage was recorded has raised new questions. It remains unclear whether the video is recent or older material that has only now been released in response to ongoing speculation about his health.

According to Firstpost, Khamenei allegedly sustained serious facial and leg injuries during a U.S.-Israeli airstrike on February 28. Those claims, along with subsequent reports regarding the severity of his condition, have not been independently verified.

Absent From Public View for Months

Mojtaba Khamenei, the second son of the late Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, assumed Iran’s highest office on March 8, becoming the country’s third Supreme Leader.

Since then, several written statements attributed to him have been published through state news agencies, but he has made no public appearances, and no new photographs or audio recordings have been released that clearly confirm his current condition.

His absence from his father’s funeral ceremonies last month drew particular attention and further fueled speculation that he is either seriously ill or still recovering from injuries.

The latest video is not the first undated footage released by Iranian state media since he assumed power.

On March 20, state broadcaster IRIB released another video, also without specifying when or where it had been recorded.

“Published for the first time. Footage of Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei delivering a lecture on religious studies,” IRIB wrote on X at the time.

That video also failed to answer the key question regarding the Supreme Leader’s current health.

Iranian President: Communication With Him Is Very Difficult

Further speculation was fueled by recent comments from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who acknowledged that communication with Khamenei is currently extremely difficult.

“At this moment, it is very difficult to communicate with him, but in any case, his presence remains a tremendous source of strength for us as we move forward,” Pezeshkian said.

At the same time, the Iranian president insisted that he has held productive meetings with the Supreme Leader.

Pezeshkian also argued that some people are trying to create a misleading public image of Khamenei because of the current situation.

“Unfortunately, the current circumstances allow some ill-intentioned individuals to portray him differently and create a false image of him,” the Iranian president said.

Trump: “He’s 90 Percent Finished”

Speculation intensified further after U.S. President Donald Trump made a dramatic claim last month regarding Khamenei’s condition.

Trump said that the Iranian Supreme Leader was “90 percent finished,” but no publicly available evidence has been presented to support that assertion.

Israeli Channel 14 also recently reported that Khamenei is in “poor condition.”

Neither the American nor the Israeli claims have been independently verified, while Iranian authorities have yet to release an official medical statement detailing the Supreme Leader’s health.

As a result, the newly released video, rather than putting the speculation to rest, leaves many questions unanswered. Although Khamenei appears to be in good condition in the footage, the absence of any verifiable information about when and where it was recorded makes it impossible to determine whether it reflects his current state.

Until Tehran releases independently verifiable information or Khamenei appears publicly under circumstances that can be reliably dated, speculation about his health is likely to continue.
