Serbia faces two crucial games in the July qualifying window for the FIBA World Cup. Head coach Dušan Alimpijević is working to assemble the strongest possible roster, and according to reports from Meridian Sport, Nikola Jović will be available for the Serbian national team.
Following two defeats against Turkey, the Eagles cannot afford any slip-ups against Switzerland and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
According to Meridian Sport, Jović will be among the players available to coach Alimpijević.
The Miami Heat forward was part of Serbia’s squad at EuroBasket in Riga last September. He was the second-best player on Svetislav Pešić’s team behind Nikola Jokić.
Jović, who recently turned 23, has been playing for the NBA franchise from Florida since 2022. Due to injuries, he appeared in only 47 games last season, averaging 7.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.
WHO ELSE WILL PLAY?
Nikola Jokić is expected to be available for coach Alimpijević in July, which is undoubtedly the most important piece of news for Serbian fans.
The status of national team captain Bogdan Bogdanović for these two extremely important games remains unclear.
The NBA will also gain another Serbian player next season — Bogoljub Marković, the ABA League MVP. It remains to be seen whether the former Mega Basketball standout will feature in the upcoming qualifiers.
WHEN ARE THE GAMES?
Serbia will face Switzerland on July 2 on the road, while four days later it will host Bosnia and Herzegovina in Belgrade. According to announcements, Bosnia and Herzegovina is expected to have both Jusuf Nurkić and Luka Garza available for the matchup.
