The origin of the Đoković family leads from Čevo in Cetinje, where Đoko Damjanović, the progenitor of this lineage, was from.

After the murder of a Turkish aga during a clash with the Turks, he moved to Nikšić, and in that way, from Đoko, the Đokovićs originated.

The first Novak Đoković was actually Đoko’s grandson, who moved from Jasenovo Polje to Chicago in 1905.

Novak returned to the homeland twice to defend it. He participated in the Balkan Wars, and was later one of the soldiers who participated in the breakthrough of the Salonika front in the First World War.

After the end of the war, he remained in Jasenovo Polje where he got a job as a lay judge.

The physical resemblance of the two Novak Đokovićs is truly great, as evidenced by a photograph that has been circulating on social networks for years.
