When young farmer Vera Škulić from Starčevo began spontaneously recording her everyday life and work in the countryside, she never imagined that her posts would go viral overnight. Today, her content has millions of views, and the profile called “Agroškulan” has managed to inspire and encourage a large number of people, especially women, to enter the world of agriculture.
Although she initially believed that only relatives and people from her local area would follow her videos, her sincere desire to show real rural life – without filters and makeup – created a large and engaged online community.
A working day from “morning till night”: The challenges of crop farming and running a household
The Škulić family farm is exclusively involved in crop production, which brings with it a specific rhythm of life. Vera’s working day lasts from early morning until late evening. In addition to demanding work in the fields, she takes care of the entire household every day – she cooks, washes and irons. When possible, her grandmother, who has limited mobility, helps her in the kitchen, so Vera tries not to burden her too much.
During the peak season, when workers are hired on the farm, her responsibilities become even greater. Her day then begins as early as 5 a.m. so she can prepare meals for the entire team. There have been occasions when, due to sudden machinery breakdowns, they worked through the entire night and continued without a break the following morning. However, as Vera points out, when work is done out of pure love, every bit of fatigue is easier to bear. She always emphasizes the dedication of women who, alongside everything else, are involved in livestock farming and vegetable production, considering their efforts even more demanding.
A woman’s mission behind the wheel of a tractor
Being a woman in the world of agriculture in Serbia represents a constant struggle for Vera, but also a personal mission. To stereotypes that women in rural areas should only help “from the sidelines”, she responded by sitting behind the wheel of a tractor and beginning to speak publicly about agriculture.
She often emphasizes that being a woman in agriculture means proving yourself every day, but also having enormous strength. When you see that both older farmers and young girls respect you, you know you have managed to break through barriers.
Her greatest reward is the messages from female colleagues who find motivation in her story. Recently, she had the opportunity to advise a girl whose family wants to start an agricultural holding, and the awareness that her presence on social media means something to other women in this sector gives her additional motivation.
Everything fell on her shoulders: From the “bricklayer’s sandwich” to quality meals in the field
Behind Vera’s smile and energy on social media lies a major family struggle that made her mature overnight. When her father became ill, the entire burden of managing the farm and the difficult work on the property fell on her shoulders. Today, she and her father work together like a well-coordinated team, and Vera especially takes care of his health and nutrition during demanding field work.

While remembering the past times when her father used to take a simple, modest “bricklayer’s sandwich” to the field, she now tries to completely change that situation. Nothing is too difficult for her, so she brings him freshly prepared, quality homemade food to the fields every day. For her, it is not just an obligation, but a way to support him and provide everything necessary so they can more easily endure the demanding farming season.
A look into the future: Technology, tradition and the return of young people to the countryside
What makes Vera’s profile stand out on the domestic scene is its strict focus on agriculture. Although there are several colleagues who record similar content, she is the only woman who has fully dedicated herself to this topic. Her great wish is for more women to start showing the beauty of rural life online, because she believes this is a key step toward a larger return of young people to villages.
In the future, Vera does not want her farm to grow exclusively in terms of the number of hectares, but above all through knowledge, innovation and sustainability. She plans to introduce new technologies and develop her own brand that will best combine tradition and modern trends. She says she will continue to raise her voice on behalf of all women in agriculture, with the goal of society finally recognizing their key role and dedication in the agricultural sector.
