After firing several shots from a gas pistol in the direction of minors gathered in the yard of the “Sveti Sava” Primary School in Smederevo, the suspect in the shooting, U. R. (24), tried to escape on a motorcycle but was soon caught and detained by police.
The police announced today that, in cooperation with the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Smederevo, they had arrested U. R. (24) on suspicion of committing the crime of causing general danger.
“He is suspected of, after a verbal and physical confrontation with several minors in the yard of a primary school in Smederevo, going to his home, taking a gas pistol with metal pellets in its magazine, and returning, after which he fired several pellets at the minors in a street next to the school and hit one of them in the hand,” the police statement said.
Tried to escape from police
He then, according to suspicions, returned to his home, left the pistol, and headed back toward the schoolyard, where, upon seeing a police patrol, he attempted to flee.
“First on a scooter, and then on foot, but police officers soon caught up with him and arrested him,” the statement said.
During a search of the suspect’s family home, a gas pistol with its accompanying magazine containing 11 metal pellets was found and confiscated.
By order of the basic public prosecutor, the suspect was placed in custody for up to 48 hours, after which he will be brought before the prosecutor’s office with a criminal complaint.
