RETURNING FROM OSTROG, THEY EXPERIENCED A HORRIFIC ACCIDENT: Minibus carrying Serbs hit a rock and overturned, girl (21) killed, 16 people injured!

A 21-year-old girl was killed, while 16 people were injured in a serious traffic accident that occurred yesterday in the town of Lipci, on the Kotor–Nikšić main road in Montenegro. Preliminary data indicate that the accident most likely happened due to driver fatigue and drowsiness.

As announced by the Police Directorate of Montenegro, the accident happened around 1:10 p.m., when a minibus traveling from the direction of Nikšić hit a rocky slope on the right side of the road, after which it overturned.

“Today, in the town of Lipci, on the Lipci–Grahovo main road, at 1:10 p.m., a traffic accident involving one vehicle occurred. Of the 17 injured passengers, one female person has in the meantime died from the injuries sustained,” the Police Directorate said.

According to “Vijesti”, the deceased was a 21-year-old girl.

All injured passengers were transported to the “Vaso Ćuković” Special Hospital for Orthopedics, Neurosurgery and Neurology in Risan, where they received medical assistance.

Hospital director Dr. Dino Panjako said that a total of 17 patients were admitted, 14 of whom remained in hospital treatment.

“Three patients were in serious condition, one of whom died after resuscitation due to severe internal organ injuries,” Panjako said.

As he stated, of the 14 hospitalized patients, five are in intensive care, while nine are being treated for serious injuries.

Several children are among the injured. One child was transferred to the Clinical Center in Podgorica after resuscitation, where treatment continued, while five more children suffered minor bodily injuries.

According to the hospital director, there are currently no other patients whose lives are in danger.

Panjako added that the passengers are Serbian citizens who were staying in the Bay of Kotor in collective accommodation and that, according to his information, they were returning from a pilgrimage trip to Ostrog Monastery when the accident occurred.

Driver from Kotor was behind the wheel

The minibus was driven by Lj. M. (68) from Kotor, from whom police officers will take a statement regarding the circumstances of the accident.

The investigation was carried out under the supervision of the state prosecutor from the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Kotor, while police and the prosecution continue collecting evidence.

“The cause of the traffic accident is being investigated, and preliminary data indicate that it was caused by driver fatigue and drowsiness,” the Police Directorate stated.
