Melissa Luburich Bean (62) is the second Serbian woman elected to the US Congress and did so three times in a row, making her one of the two most successful women of our origin in American politics. She spent a full 6 years in Congress, from 2005 to 2011, after which she retired from politics and dedicated herself to family and business.
Now, this lady born in the suburbs of Chicago is returning to the political arena, again as a candidate in the 8th Congressional District in Illinois, in the elections being held in November of this year.
And judging by the enthusiasm and energy with which she presented her program, but also her gastronomic specialties at the “220 Venue” club in Chicago – there is a great chance that the Serbian community will again have one of its own in the American Congress!
Melissa, namely, in front of numerous guests, representatives of several generations of Serbian immigration, showed her political, but also culinary skills, because she served the guests two types of pie, greens pie and cheese pie, which she made personally, but also many other traditional specialties, for which lines formed even before the official promotion began.
Watch and listen to what happened at her promotion, as well as what Melissa Luburich Bean told us in an exclusive interview:
- About her origin
- About how she recruited Republicans and Democrats in Congress for the Serbian cause with homemade greens pie and cheese pie
- About the Serbian community in Chicago
- About how she will represent Serbia in Washington if she is elected
