U.S. President Donald Trump posted on his social network Truth Social a screenshot stating that he is the 45th and 47th President of the United States, as well as the acting President of Venezuela as of January 2026.
On January 3, the United States carried out a military operation in Venezuela, during which President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were arrested in order to be tried in New York on charges related to drugs and illegal arms trafficking.
Trump announced that his administration would govern Venezuela and its oil resources during the transitional period. After Maduro’s arrest, his vice president Delcy Rodríguez was sworn in as interim president.
Trump had previously warned that Rodríguez could “pay a very high price” if she did not cooperate with the United States.
