Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić met with Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin in Beijing.

At the start of the meeting, Vučić stated that cooperation with Russia at the highest level is very important for Serbia in all areas, especially in the field of energy and concerning the supply of Russian gas.

“I hope we will have the opportunity not only to maintain but also to improve some aspects of cooperation. Energy is a very important area for us, and the purchase of gas is very important to us,” Vučić said in Beijing.

He pointed out that Serbia, thanks to the oil pipeline that it will build together with Hungary, will be able to improve cooperation with Russia in the field of energy.

“All Russian companies are welcome, all those who would like to participate in infrastructural projects in Serbia, including RZD, Rosatom, and many others,” Vučić said.

He stated that Serbia has been in a very difficult situation and under great pressure since the beginning of the Ukrainian crisis.

“Despite that, we have managed to maintain our principled position; we are the only country in Europe that has not imposed any sanctions on the Russian Federation, and we will continue to preserve our neutrality in the future,” he emphasized.

President Putin said that Russia respects Serbia’s independent orientation. During the conversation with Vučić in Beijing, he announced that another session of the Joint Committee for Trade, Economic, and Scientific-Technical Cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and the Russian Federation would be held by the end of the year.

“We are ready for joint work. I hope we can discuss economic cooperation in more detail,” Putin said.

The last time Vučić and Putin met was in May in Moscow, when the Serbian president attended the celebration of Victory Day. At that time, the focus of their talks was energy, military-technical cooperation, bilateral relations, and healthcare.

President Vučić began a multi-day visit to the People’s Republic of China early this morning. He is attending the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory in World War II at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

During his visit to Beijing, President Vučić will also meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping, as well as with other high-ranking Chinese officials and representatives of major companies.
